Xyra!

I recently ran across a talk that I think you might find rad - I know I did. The Sound of Young America (a very awesome homemade radio show based in LA) aired a chat on the nature of creative work and starting large writing projects. I'm sure you could expand it to include artistic projects as well, but he's speaking mostly of writing. Good if you ever feel you need a kick in the pants, and it made me feel better about my work on the whole. :)

A Loss In The Family [Jun. 22nd, 2009|09:51 pm]
It looks like your final days are upon you, my fine, fridgey friend. What were once firm, frozen ice pops have become an unsettling purple gel, and milk is nigh on undrinkable this morning. But it wasn't always this way, fridge. You were once mighty and strong.

In the past four years you've been a home to many of our delicious food items and perishables, keeping my curries fresh and tasty for well into the next couple of days. I still recall how you used to freeze the peas into solid blocks that needed to be slammed against the counter before cooking, most assuredly irritating the neighbours. My own sweet revenge for their 4am bouts of loud, drunken sex.

But you've been more than that, fridge. You've been a gallery for countless ironic postcards from friends and relatives, a home for brightly coloured Ikea magnets that fall off and break at the first sign of use. There were the photos of dogs, my official Slab Club ice cream card, stickers of undersea animals from the Asian food market and yes, that one wedding invitation where they used comic sans.

And so I bid you adieu, sweet fridge. You have served your household, nay, your country, with honour.

Cutest infestation ever. [Jun. 17th, 2009|09:25 am]
ARRITE. I'm at Koalaparty on Twitter, and I'll post a test thing later today. I really hope that isn't slang for something horrible. Don't tell me if it is!

Yesterday was something else as far as Fridays tend to go, and not at all in the good way. It opened with there being a body on the sidewalk outside my place of employment, and I happened to be outside making a Starbucks run at the very moment they removed the blanket to switch them in the body bag. The police were keeping pretty mum, and it wasn't in the news, so the commonly held belief around the office is that she jumped. It's horribly sad, but apparently not that uncommon around the downtown area. Which, really, is even more sad.

During said coffee run I ran into another employee, who filled me in on the story of when he'd actually found a body in the city a few years before. I like to think I'd be able to handle the whole situation well if faced with a similar thing, but there would probably be more hyperventilating and waffling, all told.

Oof.

On a lighter note, I'm thinking of getting Twitter, if only to properly follow people. I realise this is like saying you're getting a credit card for emergencies only, but when in Rome. And damnit, Safari, you stubborn thing, stop telling me I'm spelling realise wrong. I'd switch you to Canadian syntax if you didn't put an accent aigu on everything and his brother.

A Day Late [May. 31st, 2009|11:21 am]
First of all, I'd like to thank all of you cakes for coming out tonight. I really appreciate it, and some of your ugliness was truly astounding. In the end though, the prize for the most horrible cake was given to a very deserving cake, and I hope you'll all join me in a round of applause. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of this post's terrible birthday link.

Enjoy, [info]kumquatpeon!

Twilight: Chapter One [May. 17th, 2009|01:43 pm]
So far Bella Swan has managed to be patronizing to a well-intentioned, nice nerd, and forget the names of every classmate she's been introduced to scant moments after talking to them. This does not bode well for the creation of a likable, engaging protagonist.

Back in my preteen days we read Stephen King novels and we LIKED IT.*

Come, friends. Join my book club of dickery. We meet Thursdays and eat petit fours.

In other news, Friday Night Lights turns out to be a great, character-driven show so far, despite it being about football and my knowing nothing about said sport! It makes me a little frightened by small town Texas, however.

*mostly I think it was because he used the word 'tits' a lot.

In Which I Am A Lump [May. 7th, 2009|07:18 pm]
I think I've waded neck deep into some vast swamp of de-motivation. A fen or mire, if we want to be all fancy like.

Since quitting Warcraft I've managed to play a whole lot of Peggle, bake a few sad, strange cookies and draw about four pages worth of junk linework, and not a whole lot else. There is also some napping that should go in there if I'm going to be perfectly honest. Not even sexy napping. The kind with drool and half-on socks and a cat stealing valuable real estate.

THEREFORE. I need a plan B while I wait for school to start, and the following options don't seem too bad.

1. Read Twilight, if only to get what the kids are talking about these days/have something to be angry at. Also I thought I saw Robert Pattison today on the street, and it just might've been the case. I hear he's shooting part two of Sparkly Vampires in town.

2. Do commissions again. Such good practice.

3. Find a new RPG to obsess over. This is surprisingly hard!*

Beep boop incoming nerdraaant! Also, I'm being told at work by casual Photoshop users not to use curves and that I should be using levels, because curves are too complicated and there's more room for error aaaah! Also they are apparently only for artistic purposes, and take more time, oh the humanity! This kind of talk is on par with calling Lady in the Water a touching, witty masterpiece by a visionary director.

* Yeah yeah, that's what she said.

So I'm taking this new medicine for this or that, and among the listed side effects is the best thing ever:
